MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK '12 (NYFW) 9thFeb

MERCEDES-BENZ FASHION WEEK, NEW YORK is probably one of the most prolific events in the fashion calender. This IMG event this year is hosted between the 9-16th of February for Fall 2012 at the Lincoln Centre. 'Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week is held biannually... located between West 62nd and 65th Streets and Columbus and Amsterdam Avenues.' http://www.mbfashionweek.com/location

Shows mainly take past in either the Stage, Theatre, Box or Studio, but some of the very big names have shows offsite at Pier 57, Hudson street etc. Now with such a big event it is impossible to see every show because you would need to be an Octopus at least to catch half the shows, but as the schedule is released early online you can pick the days and shows that you want to see the most and save yourself the hassle. Maybelline New York has front row seats to some great shows such as DVF and will upload a live stream to youtube that people can subscribe to. In case you don't already know about this site, the footage and broadcast schedule can be found here http://www.youtube.com/LiveRunway

I will put the schedule up for each day, but just be warned it will be a lengthy post, but you can always skip down the the designers you are interested in:

Kicking it all off February 9th at 9am is ........ drum roll please...... NICHOLAS K (studio)
New York based siblings Nicholas and Christopher Kunz offer wardrobe staple items with a downtown edge but keeping the air of sophistication.

10.00am BCBGMAXAZRIA (Theatre)
Already stocked in 595 namesake boutiques worldwide Max Azria started with a ready-to-wear womens line that has been so successful it allowed him to branch into every other category from swimwear to watches. The idea of high quality and onnovation however are cnsistent throughout.

10.30 - 11.30 KAELEN (Box)
She may have only launched her brand in 2010 but with experience with Stella MacCartney and graduating frm Parsons School of design she aims to create clothes where you can show your induicidual style, but at the same time appreciate clean and sophisticated styles and lines. Her website is http://www.kaelennyc.com/collection/looks and items also available on http://www.stylebop.com/

11.00am RICHARD CHAI (Stage)
Another born and bred NewYorker and Parsons graduate to boot, he also has sketcher for Lanvin under his belt and design director at Marc Jacobs mens line. So the guy knows his stuff! His designs are accessible and yet keep that old age ideal of craftmenship and being to sew an arched seam like no-ones business. Chai I could go on and on about, so i'll stop there as the pics speak for themselves.

1.00pm HONOR (Studio)
Giovanna Randall is both Head Designer and CEO of Honor (named after her sister). According to Randall 'Clothing should make you feel free, free to be anything—you should wear clothes that make you feel like you, and it’s totally fine to be one thing one moment and then someone else the next' http://honornyc.com/#!/about Fall last year had a blend of Putty wool, cashmere, prints and velvet all featured in her designs and this year there are beautiful strong pieces, with bold colours perfect for the fearless women ready to face fashion head on. Prevoious cllections can be found at http://honornyc.com/#!/collections/?sub=173

2.00pm TADASHI SHOJI (Stage)
Shoji is the same as Randall in so far as they are both founders and head designers of their own companies, but it is there the similarities end. Shoji is a lifetime achiever in fashion and has been hoooked ever since moving to America from Japan where his background had been as a contemporary artist. He was lucky enough to work with Bill Whitten and went on to show original and innovative designs. Shoji typically makes dresses which apart from being utterly goreous tend to be either long, ethereal and flowing or shorter and colourful with a daywear edge. I personally would kill to see this show, but as that's not going to happen I will instead show quite a bit of his Spring 12 collection, as, well i'm in love with it.

2.30 - 3.30 CANDELA (Box)
Gabriele peruzutti focuses on ready-to-wear and shoes and is a collaboration brand. 'Her style incorporates equestrian and traditional gaucho influences and combines them with edgy elements inspired by the urban postmodern city in which she resides.' http://candelanyc.com/profile Candela started off with a T-shirt launch and hopefully this year plans are to launch a flagship store.

4pm CHADWICK BELL (Studio)
The history behind Chadwick Bell is one that I find really interesting. Coming from a family ancestry of carpenters Bell learned to appreciate attention to detail and craftmanship, mix that with a passion for design and classes in art, form and design you end up with? That's right a mix of romantic and utilitarian pieces put together with 'the european tradition of tailoring mixed with a sense of american ease, and the combination of strength and vunerability in his ideal woman.' http://www.chadwickbell.com/story.html Now if that wasn't enough to draw you in this dichotomy between concepts appears in all collections, but to add that unique quality and take it to the next level Bell each collection is inspired by 'a fantasy of the Chadwick Bell woman... and the inspiration of taken from characters in life, art or film.' Quotes taken from Bell's website and the full cllection can be found on http://www.chadwickbell.com/spring2012/

5pm JOSEPH ABBOUD (Pier 57, W 15th Street)
Although the page for this show is blank on the Mercedes-benz website i did a little digging into this menswear designers background. I think that the philosophy page on the website explains their ethos perfectly. 'We believe in artful masculinity. Timeless authenticity. True originals. We believe in the New America.' 'As we step forward into the future, style and substance have never been so intertwined...The finest fabrics and our unparalleled fit that drive our unparalleled fit that drive our distinctively modern point of view.' http://www.josephabboud.com/#philosophy

Enjoy
