London Fashion Week 2012 fave picks

London Fashion week compresses so much style, fashion, events, networking and parties into one week that's it's almost impossible to choose what to talk about first.
I have decided to just pick one - maybe two - looks from each designer just to give everyone a taste of the styles for F/W 12.

Day 1:
Antoni and Alison
The catwalk collection from Antoni and Alison made me feel that some of the outfits had morphed right out of the sketchbook onto the models. It's lovely when the designers concepts jump off the page and get created from nothing, but the lovely thing about these pieces is that to me the models look like the fashion sketches have been printed onto the outfits. This gives the garments an artistic quality that i just adore. The rough lines and the bold colours were really interesting and i loved this collection on the catwalk.

My favourite piece is this one. On an evening out you always wonder what to wear, feminine sparkles or masculine or even androgynous lines. This look creates both and i think its fantastic. Photos can be seen on http://www.vogue.co.uk/fashion/autumn-winter-2012/ready-to-wear/antoni-and-alison/catwalk-report
Caroline Charles

caroline charles autumn / fall 2012  I found these photos on a lovely little website http://www.fashionising.com/runway/b--caroline-charles-aw-12-20052.html#26 so please follow the link as they have a zoom option on all the outfits :)
I'm  not really a fan of this particular collection, but that's only because the fluidity of thought wasn't there for me. The furs and then the tartans to tweed and then to evening wear, i felt were a little mish mashed.  However even though i don't specifically like the theme or colouring it doesn't stop the fact that the clothes are made very well. Out of the fur/ animal print looks, tartan going hunting theme or evening wear i liked the hunting looks the best. Charles is good because she always outlines the feminine shape with the clothes form and the use of belts.
Orla Kiely

Kiely wanted to represent preppy detailing and dancing girls and that she does. The bio for Orla Kiely and her idea for the show can be found on the london fashion week site  http://www.londonfashionweek.com/designer_profile.aspx?DesignerID=477  The collection takes me back to the days of the jive and needing a partner to whisk you on the dancefloor to strut your stuff. The red shorts look i thought was the best and i like the pairing with the shirt and its detailing. I thought it was cute and i liked the consistency of the chunky buttons, you can see the full collection on wwd http://www.wwd.com/runway/fall-ready-to-wear-2012/review/orla-kiely/slideshow/5707306#/slideshow/article/5707213/5707299  as i liked the way they structure their piece.
Corrie Nielsen

This is my favourite piece of Nielsen as the draping is simple and yet complicated at the same time. I shall explain... when someone spends lots of time making their hair look like they just rolled out of bed, they spendtime making a look that looks effortless. Nielsen makes this piece look simple elegant and i am a  big fan of the sleeve and shoulder details on this number. Then you look closer and in my case get drawn in by this piece as the more you look, the more complicated you realise it really is. However this piece stands alone making me want to stand up and clap as against the main theme running through this collection it was more of a scottish theme represented by tartan and headresses  as well as some lovely draped and tailored pieces.

Fyodor Golan
I'm torn on this collection as to what i want to show. On the one hand Fyodor and Golan's collection had this intense goth glam vibe with heavy make-up and strong outfits and then on the other there was couture styled outfits in lovely pure white and heavy statement neck pieces. I think i will show a bit of each and then you will just have to go and find the rest. Goddess Glamour is a great blog and i think she explains the aesthetic of the collection really well in http://www.glamourgoddessfashion.com/archives/33002 and my favourite line is 'The workmanship is high quality with dark and romantic quality, reminiscent of Givenchy in the dropped-waist dresses and silhouettes.' Oh i do love a fellow blogger that's good with words, i think her explanation sums it up nicely so do check out the site for the full piece.

Bora Aksu
To finish off my blog today we have Bora Aksu and this collection i really enjoyed. When asked about summing up his collection he used 'governess' and using demi-couture pieces to show romance with a darker twist. I foun d another great little blog Beautiful Shopping which shows the entire collection including back shots and i would ask if you have the time to have a look as the collection just flows from one piece to the next http://www.gomoneyways.com/?p=57584

I liked a lot of seperate things about this collection, but mostly i like a collection that makes you think of something when you watch it. I love the colour palette as it always comes out crisp and clean and with the pattern overlay it makes me think of william morris prints and Midsummer nights dream all wrapped up into one. I think i liked almost every piece in this collection and with the head pieces moulding in with the models so it was amost like ivy drawing itself into the collection i was a big fan.

I also really loved the tights and even though its not the focus of this collection i was drawn to them in every design.

Aksu ended the collection with a burst of bright colours in yellow, pink and orange and it was almost like the sun setting o fhis collection. Yes that may be me adding my own story onto it, but that's the fun in writing your own blog.

Enjoy
