Feather Nail Art

Hi All

Yesterday i uploaded a pic of my new feathery nails and so this blog is to just show how easy it is to do.

To do this you will need:
Two coloured varnishes and in my case i have used the MUA Cosmetics Love Hearts Purple 'U ROK' and GOSH bright pink 'Flamingo' for contrast.
3D nail accessories stickers which i actually got from e-bay ( i love that site)
A pair of grooming scissors, ( the mini ones you use in the bathroom) or nail scissors
Finally a top coat. It can be clear but i used the N0.7 top coat which has glitter in it.

Okey Kokees here we go and don't worry the design is very simple it doesn't takes too much time. Plus it looks awesome when complete so just imagine all the 'oh my god, who did your nails? ':)

Out of the two colours that you've picked, choose the one you want to the more of to paint your nails in a full coat. In my case i painted all my nails in purple. I'm going to assume you have all painted your nails before and so don't need a diagram, just remember centre stroke, left, right and then centre again if it needs it.

Once that is dry get your other colour varnish. Dip the brush in and brush of excess and then draw one line down the centre of oyur nail. For this design it doesn't matter of they are all exactly the same width or whatever as you're putting the sticker over most of it.

Wait for this to dry. You make think it sounds redundant, but it's easy to speed up and end up catching bits and making it look patchy before it's finished.

It should look like this

Mua U ROK is available from superdrug outlets that stock the MUA range or from their website for only £2 each http://www.muastore.co.uk/index.php/love-hearts/love-hearts-nails

Gosh Flamingo is available also from superdrug or online at www.goshcosmetics.com but i do know that they are on sale now for £5 here http://www.superdrug.com/search?q=GOSH#search?q=GOSH&type=makeup16&_suid=134219708481008489988825958796 so go get yourself a bargain

Then comes the trickiest bit, the stickers.

You can do this two ways. The easiest for me is to apply the sticker where i want it and then cut off the excess around the top of the nail, but you can measure the sticker and cut it down to size first as long as you are careful not to let the sticker touch the varnish, or it will stick to it.

Moving swiftly on. If you look at the sticker packet above you will see there are 12 stickers and of course you should only have 10 fingers, so that means you will have 2 left over for another day, or you can double design on two lucky fingers.
The two at the bottom that look like peacock feathers were the biggest and so i used these of the thums.

Peel the sticker off the backing and line up the bottom of the sticker with the bottom of your nail. Press down and work your way up until you get to the top of the nail as this will make sure the sticker applies flat to the nail, doing it all at once can leave creases or bubbles.

You can choose which sticker you want for each nail, but usually i follow down in size so longest nail will have longest sticker etc etc.

When all done it should look more or less like this

You then apply the top coat to seal the sticker in place. If like me you want that bit of sparkle, just remember to wipe off the excess glitter first as you can always apply more, but theres nothing worse then achieving a great look and then putting too much glitter on and ruining the effect. Yes, this may have happened to me before and so it is possible this is sage advice from someone that has learnt the lesson the hard way :)

I really hope you've enjoyed this little blog and remember to show me any pictures of you try it out yourself, either by a link in the comment box or via email.

Happy Feathering

Easter Make-Up mess around

Good evening everyone, I hope your all having a pleasant and decadent Easter? You may be shocked to hear that my post today is not a picture of me stuffing my face with chocolate. I am rising above my temptation and instead worked up an easter themed make up blog.

image.jpeg

Ta daa!!! When I think of Easter I think of painted eggs and bright colours. This combined with the children's Easter egg hunt I held yesterday had me in the child spirits of Easter fun. I think it's so easy when using make up to stay within the comfort zone of the colours that suit your eye, simple and refined but have become a bit... Same old same old.
Today I wanted to mix it up and play with some colours, not blending, not contouring, no foundation or to much faffing around, just a bit of fun.

image.jpeg
Eyes:
You will need 6 colours plus a beige colour for base. In my case I used a selection from my MAC palette for the bold colours. The extra colours I used from an old Front Cover eye set.

image.jpeg     image.jpeg
image.jpegimage.jpeg

I started back to front and so after applying the base I started on the inner eye with the orange working it up all the way to the eyebrow and then worked my way along with green,  yellow etc all the way to pink. Then I applied the blue under the eye and then used the purple to merge the colours from the socket to the under lid. As I was going for a playful theme I have taken the colour quite far out to the sides and then of course this could be done even more so if you are feeling daring. Do send me a pic if you do though :)

image.jpeg
Finish up with just a touch of kohl eyeliner, mascara and eyebrow definer.

Brushes used:
image.jpeg
Bare Minerals full flawless face brush
Elegant touch eyeshadow brush
Body shop large eyeshadow blender
A tiny brush I got in my goody bag at the Blaze hair and make up course.

Lips:
MAC embrace me lip liner applied all over lips
MAC lipglass style packed on top

image.jpeg      image.jpeg

Finish off with a smidge of body shop bronzer all over the face, and I do mean a smidgin, none of this you've been tangoed orange peel effect that some people fall victim to. Finish off with a dab of blush, again the amount depends on how daring you want to be, but if you are putting on a lot, just remember to blend into the cheekbone all the way to the eyebrow arc. Blend, blend, blend.
I know some of you will be thinking Asda blusher isn't very high fashion, but I like to go with the feel of the product rather then the price of it, so yes Asda blusher did me just fine for this example.

image.jpeg

So there we have it an Easter look for those feeling adventurous.

On the other hand some of you may prefer nails to make up and so I also have an alternative for you.
Yes I know you are thinking how young and dainty my fingers look here, but alas it is not my hand. After having my three year old watch my make up application and been told 'no' she wasn't allowed eyeshadow, or lip gloss, or my giant blusher brush, or to be pretty like mummy *her words not mine.* I gave in to the nails as it's the only time she will get nail varnish, until she's old enough to buy it with pocket money.

image.jpeg

Using MUA love heart varnishes as I do love a good MUA product and an eyeliner. Very very simple.
Paint on a base colour
Use pointy tip cotton bud to apply head and ears of your bunny in second colour.
Use third colour on the inner ears
Use liquid eyeliner to outline bunny silhouette and draw face, whiskers or any other detail you like.
The thumb I was going for the back of the bunny with a tail, but a 3 year old only sits still for so long, even with 'tangled' on.
Well that's it for today, hope you enjoyed it and do let me know the looks you had on for Easter, or of you tried out any of the ones on this blog.

Happy Easter

Love Hearts

 Me and my Love Heart
It's great when your a kid and your given 50p and told you can buy sweets with it, you get that sudden rush of power and importance and no matter what you buy they taste great simply because YOU brought them. As you get older money becomes something that hopefully we have but 50p may be loose change in our bag instead of the highlight of our day.

To be realistic in todays economy 50p really doesn't get you much, but it's more the excitement then the haul - except on halloween because then its all about how much you get-, what i do like though is when something small brings back a memory and makes you feel small and young again. You know what i mean a bit of n-sync comes on the radio and before you know it you have the image of you and a hairbrush and a couple of your gal pals throwing some serious dance moves in your bedroom or a bit of spice girls giving you back your swagger for a minute or two, strike a pose and ..... girl power!!

My moment came when choosing the favours for my wedding and finding that some places did little packs of love hearts with phrases such 'mr and mrs' and 'forever' carved into the sweet. I got more excited over the fact they were love hearts then all of the other favours and even though i didn't choose them for my 'perfect day' i started longing for some love hearts.

To get to the fashion point of this piece more and more people are cottoning on to the notion that sweets can be the basis for many types of art, jewellry and make up designs.

Sweet Lily Sparkles works with Polymer Clay and has a huge range of flumps, chocolate magic stars and jelly baby based ideas that are turned into the cutest bits of jewellry. I mean who wouldn't want a pair of Jammie Dodger earrings!!

I was lucky enough to get my Love hearts fix with this bracelet and i have had so many people commenting on it and asking where i got it, that i'm afraid i may have started a trend. Sweet Lily Sparkles if your orders start pouring in from the midlands - you're welcome :)
You can have so much fun with Instagram!
To find out more about Sweet Lily Sparkles and her range please look at her website http://www.sweetlilysparkles.co.uk/ourshop/prod_1851648-Loveheart-beaded-Bracelet-as-seen-on-Hollyoaks-Hollie-Jay-Bowes.html and if that wasn't incentive enough, there is a sale on as we speak and this bracelet is £5.60 - yes you heard right only £5.60.

b3eot.jpg This Sugar Lips necklace is another example of the love hearts that Sweet Lily Sparkles has on offer at the moment for £6.

Anybody knows that to wear a piece of jewellery you need the right look to go with it. Well now i have my love heart bracelet what's next you ask? Well look below and all will be revealed.

The Make Up Academy (MUA) recently launched a Love Hearts Collection made up of nail varnishes and Lip balms that are all named as if they were love hearts.

Love Heart Lip Balms£2 KISS ME is 1 of 5 shades available and even though it is only stocked at a few Superdrug stores they can be brought directly from the MUA websitehttp://www.muastore.co.uk/index.php/love-heart-lip-balms

Love Heart Nail Varnish £2 U ROK nail varnish is 1 of  6 shades available

I have used 5 of the 6 colours above as i wanted the brightest ones to show off in this rare pout of heat Britain is having at the moment. Apart from my son trying to eat them they have gone down well with people commenting how colourful and fun they look. However, if i was at work i culd tone it down to one or two shades, then again if i was going out i could add some marbling or nail wraps... maybe even some liner as art, but i will do another piece on that soon enough.

My Keep Cool picture was very simple to do as a couple of friends have liked it. It was done with MAC embrace me lip liner and dazzleglass gloss over the top. It's nice as the liner is bright and under a gloss brings out a pink/coral tone depending on the shade.

follow the link to dazzle glass index :)
In my case both were brought from the display in my local MAC as they've both just come out. So experiment with these of the MUA glosses which maybe in a balm tin, but they spread like gloss so apply a little and add what you need as you go.

This blog has been so fun that i will follow it up soon with some similar pics using MUA and MAC products amongst others in my collection to have a play around with. I may have also just fallen head over heels with Violent Lip lip transfers or lip tattoos and have brought the leopard print to mess around with.

Please leave comments or pics of what you have done as would love to see them.
